At The Mercantile, we’ve reimagined the boutique experience through the lens of two charming characters: Mr and Mrs Mercantile, who embody the spirit of Dublin, historic yet playful, cultured yet full of character. This historic hotel first opened its doors since 1835, and we are proud to have kept the spirit of The Mercantile and Dublin alive since we reopened.
Even our signature cocktail menu is inspired by Dublin’s local characters and folklore, adding a taste of Irish charm to your evening.

While big hotels lean on scale, we focus on individuality and imagination. Our hotels historic design blends Georgian elegance with modern eccentricity, featuring rich colours, layered textures, and Irish made furnishings from McGuigan Furniture and Mullan Lighting. Each room carries subtle nods to Dublin’s history and culture, while clever design solutions make the most of the city centre space.
You’ll even find Mr and Mrs Mercantile popping up on digital screens with riddles and playful nods to the hotel’s heritage, because hospitality should be fun as well as refined.

Our recent five year transformation, completed in June 2025, expanded The Mercantile from 28 to 105 rooms, introduced a reimagined restaurant, and added Café28. This renovation wasn’t just about growth, it was about honouring over 100 years of welcoming guests to this site while creating the boutique hotel Dublin experience for a new generation.
